Compact but surprisingly spacious water birth pool for smaller maternity rooms and delivery suites

The Princess II Water Birth Pool is our compact, highly practical water birth pool for hospitals, birth centres and maternity units where space is limited but performance, comfort and clinical usability still matter.

Although smaller than the Active II and Venus II models, the Princess II is surprisingly spacious inside.

It provides the depth, support and freedom of movement mothers need to benefit from water immersion during labour, while its compact footprint makes it suitable for delivery rooms where a larger pool may not be practical.

The Princess II is designed for maternity teams who need a professional hospital water birth pool that is comfortable for mothers, easier for midwives to work around, simple to clean and built for long-term clinical use.

Small footprint, generous internal space

Compact does not mean cramped.

The Princess II has been carefully shaped to give mothers the space they need to move, rest, lean, kneel, sit and use upright positions during labour. Its internal form supports active birth without overwhelming the room.

This makes the Princess II especially useful where maternity units want to offer water birth in rooms with restricted floor area, refurbishment constraints or limited wall space.

Designed for active labour and water birth

The Princess II is not an adapted bath. It is a purpose-designed water birth pool shaped around the practical realities of labour, birth and midwifery care.

The pool supports the instinctive movements women often use in labour, including upright, kneeling, forward-leaning, supported squatting, seated and resting positions.

The internal Labour Support Seat, lumbar support and broad rounded rim give the mother a choice of support points without forcing her into one fixed posture.

This helps create a more protective, calm and flexible environment for physiological labour and birth.

Labour Support Seat and lumbar support

The Princess II includes integrated internal support features that help mothers rest and remain upright when they wish.

Labour Support Seat

The Labour Support Seat provides support in upright positions and gives the mother a comfortable place to rest between contractions.

It also provides a supportive place for the mother to welcome her baby after birth.

Lumbar support

The integrated lumbar support gives additional comfort and support in upright positions such as squatting.

Because it is moulded into the pool, it does not create a loose accessory, additional fitting or avoidable obstruction.

Extra-wide rounded rim

The Princess II has an extra-wide, rounded bull-nose rim that wraps around the pool.

This rim is central to the way the pool works.

It gives mothers a firm, comfortable handhold in a range of labour positions and provides a broad surface for leaning, resting, turning, sitting and entering or leaving the pool.

It also helps midwives and birth partners sit close to the mother in greater comfort, with arms supported on the rim and legs able to tuck beneath the pool.

This supports closer care while reducing unnecessary bending and reaching.

Easier entry and exit with the Single Step Unit

Used with the Active Birth Pools Single Step Unit, the Princess II supports a simple step, sit, swivel and lower method of entry.

The mother steps onto the compact single step, sits securely on the broad rim, swivels her legs into the water and lowers herself into the pool in a controlled movement.

This avoids climbing over a high rim and helps preserve clear working space around the pool.

The same principle supports exit from the pool.

The mother can rise to the rim, sit, swivel and step down in a calmer, more grounded sequence.

Keyhole-shaped rear channel

The Princess II includes the distinctive keyhole-shaped channel at the rear of the pool.

This feature helps protect mothers from hitting their head on the spout area and contributes to safer movement around the inside of the pool.

Ficore® composite construction

The Princess II is hand-built to order in England from Ficore® composite.

Ficore® is a solid composite material selected for the demands of hospital water birth. It is strong, rigid, warm to the touch, durable, repairable and resistant to the cleaning and disinfection processes used in maternity environments.

Because Ficore® can be moulded into smooth, seamless, one-piece forms, the Princess II has fewer joints, crevices and dirt traps than pools assembled from multiple parts.

This supports easier cleaning, inspection and infection-prevention practice.

Ficore® also has a greater adhesive factor and is less slippery & more slip resistant than fibreglass or acrylic.

Practical for midwives and maternity teams

The Princess II has been designed to support both mothers and midwives.

For mothers, it offers:

  • compact external dimensions with generous internal space
  • deep water immersion
  • supportive internal contours
  • a Labour Support Seat
  • lumbar support for upright postures
  • a warm, tactile Ficore® surface
  • a wide rim for holding, leaning, resting and entry

For midwives, it supports:

  • close access to the mother
  • comfortable seated working positions
  • reduced bending and reaching
  • clear working edges
  • simple cleaning and inspection
  • practical emergency-evacuation planning

Optional multi-colour LED lighting and Bluetooth® sound

The Princess II Water Birth Pool can be supplied with integrated multi-colour LED lighting and Bluetooth® sound.

Adjustable lighting can soften the clinical feel of the room and help create a calmer labour environment.

Bluetooth® sound allows mothers to use music, relaxation tracks, hypnobirthing audio or familiar sounds to personalise the atmosphere.
